The U.S. market for industrial machinery, automation and equipment: sales and imports recover

+ 14% U.S. industrial machinery sales throughout 2021

For 2022, the industry is expected to grow by 2.4 percent, with total sales of more than $305 billion compared to the $298 billion recorded in 2021 [In 2020, industrial machinery sales in the U.S. were $261 billion, and in 2019 they were $284 billion].

The trend increase in imports brings the sale of machinery for industrial automation and equipment in the U.S. market back to pre-COVID levels. The first half of 2021 closes about 10 percent below 2019's record sales levels, but, as we said, the trend figures are up.

Among the most dynamic machinery and mechanical engineering sectors in the U.S.:

• paper processing machinery,
• food processing machinery, and
• metal extrusion machinery.
