Digital privacy management. Federal standards for data. These are not hot topics around the water cooler at any U.S.-based startups, for sure. But maybe they should be. The EU already has the General Protection Data Regulation (GDPR), which sets agreed-upon standards designed to facilitate trust in internet infrastructure. Widespread data-empowerment is not possible without a federally guaranteed law that ensures every citizen’s data will be protected. Other countries get it, and the U.S. is falling behind them in the race for a data-driven edge. Privacy is the new competitive battlefront in business.
