One thing that the pandemic can take credit for is increased awareness of supply chain vulnerabilities. Whereas before COVID, most eyes looked to China for goods at an advantageous price point, nowadays there’s another consideration- do we really want to be dependent on suppliers in a country whose ideology and political differences vs the U.S. grow wider every day? Shouldn’t we have options in case the situation continues to deteriorate? President Biden is taking a hard look at four industries closely tied to the global COVID response, and it looks likely that he won’t stop there. Maybe cheapest isn’t worth it.
